Facts about Japan Tsunami
90% tsunamis are formed due to earth quake below the sea. Tsunami is equivalent to a “wall of water” which has a strength ‘wall of bricks”. It is totally different than the usual waves of the sea.
Tsunami hit Tohoku region of japan on 11 March 2011 with 9.0 magnitude.
The height of these waves was as much as “120Ft”.
18,000 people died & lost their lives. 6000 injured.
It caused the biggest ever lost on earth by natural disaster of $235 billion.

Location of this earth quake was 100Km away from the coastline of japan & more than 18 miles below the sea bed.
This disaster shifted the coastline of japan 60mtr towards east.
This caused the reshuffling of earths mass & earth’s axis shifted by 4 inches & 1 day reduced by few micro seconds.
Tsunami waves can be longer than 150km & with speed 1000km/hr which is near to speed of a jet plane.
